Prayer Request
Pray for Antoinne. He is a new believer in Christ. His faith is being tested and he is thinking of slipping back. His struggle is sexual sin, and letting go of bad friends. He has slipped up, and does not know how to get back up. I have been witnessing to him, but don’t want to say too much. He seems to be in such a low place. Pray that his faith fail him not, and he is able to withstand the attacks of the enemy in this season. Pray for his spiritual growth and restoration. I believe with me standing in the gap and agreeing with others he will come back to the Lord with a new heart! ( Prayer request received on our website-SOLM)
Latest Utility Blessing Tree Event
This Sunday, October 23rd, will be our first Utility Blessing Tree event of the 2011 holiday season. We will be at LifeLine Community Church at 4231 NW 50th in Oklahoma City, between Portland and Meridian on 50th. We will be there between 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
Earlier this summer, we met with Associate Pastor Brian Simpson, his wife Charissa, and Agnes, a volunteer. This is a small but growing church which is Christ-centered and bible-based. We have since met the Senior Pastor Paul Haworth, an engaging pastor who teaches the Gospel with passion. LifeLine Community Church is obedient to The Great Commission as Jesus instructed, with several outreach programs which encourage participation of church members. These include a clothing bank called Joseph’s Closet; Undie Sundays in which they gather underwear, t-shirts and toiletry items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, deoderant, hand lotion, etc.) for delivery to a local homeless shelter; an annual car show with food and refreshments, and an annual craft show coming up in November. Booth space is still available for the craft show. You can contact the church at 405-943-3271 for information.
This event is also our first of several events resulting from our outreach efforts which started back in the summer. We started a new campaign of mailing and calling churches in an effort to partner with them to help with those in their church who may be in need- if the need is beyond their financial ability to meet- or to refer those outside their church to Shepherds of Love, as they can be sure that we will uphold the integrity of The Gospel, and do our best to meet their financial and spiritual needs in their current crisis. We have also offered to share in the financial burden if possible, or help those in their flock find help from other agencies. We have an extensive list of resources we use that are available to help those in need. We often refer clients to food banks for food; to Infant Crisis Services or All Things Baby for children’s needs; other agencies like Shepherds of Love that we sometimes partner with when there is a large financial need; or other agencies which offer services we don’t provide such as rent, medical care, shelter or clothing.
We are looking forward to several more scheduled events in churches and businesses between now and Christmas, as we seek to expand our outreach to church and enhance our donor base. God has led us to churches which are Christ-centered, bible-based and outreach-oriented. We are anticipating many new long-lasting relationships with these churches, their servant-hearted pastors and members of the Body of Christ as we pursue a common goal: To grow the Body of Christ in our communities.
Kingdom Builder article
I recently received an article from Kingdom Builder- part of Stewerdshipministries.com . After reading it, I asked the author for permission to use it on our blog, which was granted. I have included the link below.
I related to this article through experiences in my own life. 2010 was a tough year for me as my real estate business had gone into the tank after the end of April due to the government tax credit expiring. Earlier, my wife at the time had asked me to move out of our suburban Denver home on May 1st, as our 23 year marriage was over. I had gone to work a couple of years earlier loading trucks at night for FedEx. It was back-breaking work for a guy my age. I was humbled.
As the summer rolled around, I was “cat-sitting” for my neice. She didn’t have cable t.v. or a dish, nor could I get any reception with rabbit-ears because of where her apartment was located near the foothills west of Denver. As I look back, it was a good thing. I found myself reading my bible more, reflecting on it more and listening to God. I asked Him to reveal His purpose for me in my life. It wasn’t too long after that I started thinking more about my mother, who lives here in Oklahoma City. Last November was her 81st birthday, and I had noticed her memory fading along with some other issues. She has always asked us not to put her in a nursing home as she had a bad experience with her mother. So about the end of September, I had the idea (or was it placed?) to move back to Oklahoma after 35 years of living elsewhere, mostly in Colorado.
The point of all of that is to tell you that when I finally surrendered to His will, I felt a tremendous peace come over me. I know now that this is where He wants me, and that it is His purpose. Because of a supernatural experience that happened on my first day of work at Shepherds of Love, I have no doubt. I am including a link to the article below on trusting God. It hit home with me because in my previous life, trying to hold together my marriage, my business and my lifestyle I realized I had put up a barrier to trusting God. Although I now have much less, I find that I am more grateful to God for what I do have. I am richly blessed; not with “stuff” but with faith and family, and thanks to our donors, I am able to do God’s work- that of building His Kingdom here on earth.
